Hibiscus (2020)
This project was made at the end of May 2020 in Montreal. Around mid-March, the city of Montreal was shut down due to the COVID19 pandemic. I left the city and went to the country to avoid the virus. After two months when I back to my city apartment there was a few signs of life, the plants that I had with me for years are gone. The hibiscus was still blooming before I left, it gave me lots of joy in the early spring. Two months later, it dried like a sculpture. I took my time photographed these dried leaves and the dead flowers fall on the floor. These images are like symbols representing this period of time. By photographing them, I feel I did the final ritual to memorize the past and to mourn the lost.
