Hua Jin is a visual artist born in China, who lives and works in Montreal Canada. Jin received her MFA degree at
Concordia University in Montreal, and her BFA at Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver. Jin’s
mediums are photography, installation, and video. She has exhibited extensively in solo and group shows throughout
Canada, China and the United States, as well as in Mexico and Holland. Jin has profited from several residencies, and
she has received over 30 prestigious awards and grants, which includes the first Cultural Diversity in Visual Arts Award
given by the Conseil des arts de Montréal. Jin’s works are featured in private and public collections, including
the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Canada Foreign Affairs, Canada Art Bank. Her projects are supported by the Canada
Council for the Arts and Conseil des arts et des Lettres du Québec (CALQ). As a Chinese-Canadian artist, Jin’s way of
thinking is inherently rooted in Eastern culture and philosophy. Jin’s works contemplate the idea of permanence and
change, of the passing time and of the evanescent quality of existence. She is particularly interested in the subject of
nature and landscape. Her recent artistic practice focuses on the spiritual and meditative aspects of nature as well as
its related history and human stories.
Hua Jin thanks for the support from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des arts et des Lettres du Québec.
